Jack Nicklaus is arguably the finest player ever to pick up a golf club. After retiring from the professional game in 2005 with 73 PGA wins ( including 18 Majors) under his belt, the Golden Bear became synonymous with the design of topflight courses across the globe. His Signature course at Monte Rei Golf and Country Club is ranked as the best and most exclusive course in Portugal, and has been challenging players of all abilities and handicaps from across the world since 2007.
Set against the backdrop of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, the 7182-yard, par 72 course blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Four separate tees enable the course to be played by golfers of differing standards. It is a true challenge for the most accomplished and enjoyable for those who have higher handicaps. Wide forgiving fairways weave through mature trees, and alongside lakes on the approach to each manicured green.
Monte Rei is about to cement its place at the pinnacle of European golf resorts with work about to start on a second Jack Nicklaus Signature course. When it opens in 2021, the resort will be added to a select list of golfing destinations worldwide that have multiple Signature courses.

In confirming the award, the Michelin judges praised Vistas as “a kitchen of great finesse, deserving of a visit. Using top quality ingredients, dishes with distinct flavours are carefully prepared to a consistently high standard.”
